Horse Of The Year Show 2005
Local riders will be competing in less than a week at the biggest ever Horse of the Year Show, held at the Birmingham's NEC Wednesday 12- Sunday 16 October. Over 150,000 competitors set out each year to try and earn one of the converted 1,500 places at HOYS and less than one percent actually make it, proving that Cornwall has some of the best horses and riders in the country. Sarah McCormack and Grace Warmington who both qualified at the Royal Cornwall Show will be riding in one of the first events to take place on Wednesday morning in the Caldene Arena. Both girls will compete in the Simpsons Refractories Mountain and Moorland Pony of the Year. Sarah who is a second chef at the Falcon Inn, St Mawgan will be riding Rosmarth Raindrop a 13 year-old Black Fell mare on loan to her by Doug and Barbara Hall. Grace who is fourteen years old and also qualified at this year Royal Cornwall Show, will ride her mothers grey Connemara Rinsey Drumlin who has been successfully competing in working hunter, dressage and showing classes this summer.
Andrew James a dedicated farrier from Lanivet was placed at last years HOYS and is aiming to get a better result in 2005. Andrew qualified Carnsdale Quizmaster a nine year-old grey gelding owned by Mrs H Childs at Stithians show in July in the Intermediate Working Hunter class and will ride in the Caldene arena on Sunday morning after the Working Hunter Ponies. Andrew gained second place at the Royal International Horse Show this year, rode in the class, then travelled straight back to jump his own horse at Redpost BSJA qualifying show at Totnes on the same day! He is very dedicated and has to fit in competing at such a high level along with his work and own horses.
With only nineteen places on offer for the Intermediate Show Hunter of the Year, friends Katey Saggers from Goonhaven and Emma James from St Agnes will compete against each other in the Caldene Arena on Thursday. Katey will ride Kay Broads eightn year-old grey gelding, Trefienon Glen and Emma will ride her mothers five year-old Black mare Anothertime. Friday morning is when fourteen year-old Louis Moore will ride in the International Arena on Brookhill Lad in the Blue Chip Junior Newcomers championship following Melanie Hennah who is competing in the Cuddy Working Hunter of the Year commencing at 7am on Le Pointe D'or a ten year-old Chestnut gelding who qualified by taking first place at the Royal Cornwall show. Bridget Millington will ride in The Bardo Ladies Hunter of the Year on Amy-Anne Southerns, five year-old bay gelding Enduring Freedom who is a novice brought out for one of the first outdoor shows this season at the Tall Trees Arena showing show in April.
The youngest Cornish representative will be four year-old Abigail Dymond from Lostwithiel who has had a fantastic 2005 season showing her bay pony Cosford Charmaine. Abigail won the Pretty Polly home produced leading rein class at the Royal International Horse Show and is enjoying every minute of riding this special little pony being led by her mother Fiona. Abigail ends the week of Cornish exhibits on Sunday early afternoon riding in the Caldene Arena.
