Indoor Cross Country Accumulator
The Indoor Cross Country Accumulator Series reached an exciting climax on 2 April at Pendavey Equestrian Centre. Many members of North Cornwall Pony Club took home a clutch of trophies as the final placings were decided with some exciting jump offs and close finishes. Well supported classes particularly over the lower height ranges demonstrated the strong support for this type of event. A number of potentially successful working hunter combinations this Summer used the opportunity to practice over the natural fences.
Being the final round in the series the fences were up to height in each class and with some tight turns and galloping tracks there were opportunities for all to show their skills. Over the more novice courses Pendavey EC likes to encourage any combination to compete and is very supportive of even the most novice partnership. As the heights increase the competitors are asked more questions and the introduction of a water tray does sometimes prove decisive.
The 1ft 6in. to 1ft 9in. was won by Chloe Brown and Daisy to consolidate their lead in this section of the series. Their jump off round was marginally quicker than competitive Nicole Braden on Prince. Third place went to Eva Walton on Twilight. Consistent performances throughout the six rounds of this series by Chloe and Eva were rewarded with the first and second place trophies in the accumulator with third going to relatively new competitor Sophie Chaplin on Vanilla Essence.
The most popular class of the day was the 2ft course. A chance ride for Briony Eddy on Lucy Booth’s keen New Forest pony Farriers Flight proved successful as this combination produced a quick clean jump off round to take first place from Chloe Rickard and Barney. A point accrued for their sixth place in this class helped Olivia Walton and Ptarmigan collect the first place trophy for their overall performance in this section. Chloe Brown and Daisy followed up their earlier win with second place just ahead of Daisy’s previous owner Chloe Rickard and Barney.
Lucy Booth rode Farriers New Flame to a decisive win in the 2ft 3in. ahead of one of the most successful combinations of the series Stephanie Smith and Tiger Lily. There was never any doubt as to the winner of the points trophy for this class as Stephanie and her skewbald pony Tiger Lily finished with an 18 point advantage over their closest rivals. Olivia Walton and Ptarmigan with Mollie Trethewey and Hurricane Harvey in third.
Only three combinations reached the jump off for the 2ft 6in. won by the strong partnership of Jemma Parsons and Caesar. Their attacking jump off round relegated Stephanie and Tiger Lily to second. The same two competitors took the first two places in the final standings for this section with Stephanie and Tiger Lily proving victorious from Jemma and Caesar.
Jemma and Caesar also won the 2ft 9in. helping secure her overall points victory. Though the 3ft class may have had a small number of entries it finished with an exciting jump off between close friends Mollie Trethewey and Jemma Parsons. Both girls rode attacking rounds over the raised fences and it was an unfortunate pole down for Caesar that gave victory on this occasion to Mollie and her Welsh pony Hurricane Harvey. However, Jemma and Caesar took the 3ft. overall points trophy as well as the 3ft 3in overall, making it a hat trick of overall trophies for Jemma.
Any combinations that may have won trophies for points accumulated over the series but were unable to attend the last event in the series can collect their trophy from Fliss at Rose Equestrian, Pendavey Equestrian Centre, Sladesbridge. The dates for the David Broome Championship of Great Britain Qualifiers have now been finalised and will be 28 May, 25 June, and 9 July. Please note that there will be no classes on 1 May which may be indicated on some schedules.
