Lanhydrock Horse Trials

Anita Knight from Polgooth enjoyed success at the Lanhydrock Horse Trials riding her coloured 10 year-old gelding Valentines Speed Limit. Anita has owned Speed Limit who’s stable name is ‘Fat Gus’ for three years and has brought him on slowly from showing and dressge last year to trying out the horse trials at Laddock.

Anita felt he was now ready to tackle the course at Lanhydrock and although she endured a scary moment through the water element where, she lost her stirrups and nearly fell off the combination went clear with no time penalties. A third in the dressage element and a clear round show jumping put Anita into the lead which she kept and claimed first prize.

Event secretary Sara Newton told Horseclub  that the whole day was a huge success the ground was in perfect condition and the course had been built to a very high standard which rode superbly. The standard of riding in all of the classes was good which reflected in the low penalties awarded.

The Intro section B was won by Ellena Pitts from Exeter riding Orange Sonic with fourteen year-old Roxi Foster from Newquay very close behind in second place riding her lovely pony Rillaton Silver Star. Roxi is a rider to watch in the future, she is trained by Emily Schofield and is a keen member of Porth Valley Riding Club. She has had an excellent start to 2006 by qualifying Silver Star for the Bath and West BSJA JC championships and has had excellent results with her other pony Aladdin Prince of Thieves. Lucy Cox from Yelverton won the Intro section C with the lowest penalties of the day 26.8 riding Mollie Malone. Intro section D was won by Charlotte Andrews form Tedburn St Mary on Woodland Fella.

The Pre-Novice was won by Fran davenport form Saltash who is a BE approved doctor riding Red Rose Petra with a good score of 30. Teenager Althea Bleekman seems set to follow her mothers footsteps in the eventing world with a good win on Mayflower in the Novice, followed by local rider Hannah McIntyre on Per Ardua in second.

Organisers are now looking forward to next years event which takes place on the usual second Sunday in May, after Badminton Horse Trials.
