Pendavey Competition
Pendavey Equestrian Centre held two consecutive days of competition over the May bank holiday week end. Large entries on the Sunday for the David Broome Championship of Great Britain Showjumping qualifiers confirmed the strong support in the area for this event.
North Cornwall Pony Club members did well gaining qualifications. Young Alex Keilbart on Nina Ball’s dependable pony Charmaine was particularly delighted to achieve her qualification in the ten years and under.
The most popular class was the 2ft 3in. With nearly 40 combinations entered. An exciting jump off was headed by Annie Warren riding Gold. Annie is an accomplished tetrathlon competitor who represents North Cornwall Pony Club, she was advised to go for a safe clear round but decided to ignore the advice and ‘go for it’ Which paid off as she stayed in the lead ahead of Emma Howard on Mr Jericho followed by Emma’s mother Debbie Howard on Max.
Fast times were recorded in the higher 2ft 6in class with victory going to the experienced combination of Emily Johns and Willow. Kennan Fowlie with Holocombe Hector was less than half a second behind Emily to take second place, third prize went to Kelly Trebilcock on Gismo.
The 2ft 9in class only saw two riders get double clear rounds, Sue Coffin rode Spot on into first place with Gill Turner on Rosewall Heaven Sent taking second. Young Mollie Trethewey riding her great little pony Hurricane Harvey took the third rosette.
Mollie and Harvey went on to be the only combination in the 3ft class to have no penalties and gain the red rosette. Paige Trethewey on Western Talisman took second and Kennan Fowlie took third. Paige and Tally went on to take first place in the 3ft 3in class from her good friend Charlotte Keilbart on Cally Coo. Both these girls have previously enjoyed the experience of riding at the championships of Great Britain and were determined to achieve the necessary qualification.
Pendavey EC will be holding more shows were you can gain qualification to the Championships on 9 July.
Following on from the success of the jumping on the Sunday there was again strong support for the combined training event held on Bank Holiday Monday. Victoria Carpenter rode Scrumpy jack into top spot in the 2ft 3in class being the only combination to finish with no penalties. Sue Coffin was second on Elvis who collected penalties in the show jumping phase and Penny Lay took third riding Woody who was the fastest of those who collected penalties over the cross country course.
Completing the cross country course within two seconds of the optimum time helped Pippa Higman on Solar Eclipse take first place int he 2ft 6in class. Julia Drummond Dunn also gained a quick time and finished in second on Buttons with Sue Coffin and Elvis taking third.
There were no clear rounds over the 2ft 9in showjumping phase but a clear round on the cross country phase secured first place for Stacey Venner on Hot Whiskey, second went to Ellie Wright on Foxy and Lisanne Corney took third with Troy.
Another new venture for Pendavey was the introduction of a Team Chase. Sadly entires were disappointingly low considering the interest shown when the event was initially advertised. All competitors really enjoyed themselves with great camaraderie and team spirit. The winning 2ft 3in team was Becky King on All that Jazz, Ben Freeman on Inspector Morse, Pippa Higman on Solar Eclipse and Kelly Trebilcock on Sir Rooster Royale. A rather experienced team won the 2ft 9in class comprising Sophie Tregidgo on Bahama Breeze, Sarah Higman on Impulse, Julie Watts on Wembley and Sue Trudgeon on Max.
The Eddy family were quick to thank all who helped either with the pre event organisation or on the day. For further information regarding any future events Pendavey will be holding please contact Fliss on (01208) 895020
