Equine extravaganza at the Royal

This year’s Royal Show, taking place between July 1-4 2007 at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, is set to become an equine extravaganza with over 2,000 horses competing and top equestrian personalities in attendance.

Whether a horse fanatic or just a lover of the countryside, according to its organisers, the Royal Agricultural Society of England, the show will provide something for everything. Aside from the exclusive equine shopping area, visitors can enjoy a rich and diverse timetable of displays and superb attractions from Lusitano quadrille to practical horsemanship and side saddle concours d’Elegance.

“For those that share a deep seated passion for all things equestrian, this is one show not to be overlooked whether attending as a competitor or spectator,” says executive show director, Peter Stovold. “It’s certainly going to put visitors in touch with every aspect of rural life and will provide a truly unique experience for us all. Of course, we’re indebted to all our supporters and sponsors because without them, we would not be able to continue to build on the successful equine section of the show which yet again has some new elements this year.”

New equine elements for 2007 include:

  •  Brand new equine display timetable including Olympic three-day eventer Mary King, practical horsemanship demonstrations, Lusitano quadrilles, side saddle concours d’Elegance and a show-stopping performance from the Knights of Middle England Jousting team
  • Showjumping legends David Broome and Liz Edgar will be judging the supreme ridden championship on Wednesday July 4, with world-renowned judge and breeder, Cynthia Hayden, judging the supreme driven championship on the same day
  •  There are a number of new classes at this year’s show including HOYS qualifiers in intermediate riding type and intermediate show hunter, both added to the Sunday programme (July 1), and ridden Arabs has been included as part of the Monday timetable (July 2)
  •  There is a new class being introduced for working cobs into Sunday’s timetable
  •  Junior showjumping classes are also another new feature, taking place on Tuesday July 3 and Wednesday July 4 in the Grand Ring
  •  For those competitors wishing to compete at both Hickstead and the Royal Show, the judging timetable has been altered accordingly to accommodate this.
All the traditional horse-lover’s favourites will still be at the Show including the prestigious HOYS ridden class qualifiers, Britain’s top show jumpers will be in action alongside heavy horse turnout and obstacle driving, driven championships, in-hand and coloured classes.

“No trip to the Royal Show would be complete without seeking out some of the equine shopping bargains,” adds Peter Stovold. “From tack boxes to horseboxes and stabling to paddock maintenance equipment and the latest in country clothing, if it’s horsey shopping visitors want they will not be disappointed!”

Ticket prices, including car parking, start from just £17 on the gate with advance booking discounts available along with special concessionary rates for children and the over 60’s.
