School Teams Compete at Barguse

Cornwalls Penrice and Brannel schools triumphed in the final of the school show jumping team competition for Devon and Cornwall.

Fourteen teams took place in the breath taking championships held at Barguse Riding Centre, over two rounds plus a third round jump off for the double clears to decide the final positions. The arena was packed with riders and their supporters watching the non-stop jumping in the two different classes.

The first class being 2ft 6in high. Four horses and riders were in each team with the three best scores carried forward into the second round. The Penrice Team of Abby Phillips on Arnie, Paige Trethewey on Western Talisman, Charlotte Keilbart on Cally Coo and Jessica Sweet on Mazey Day all went clear in both provisional rounds. The four ponies had excellent times which made them the school teams champions once again.

Jessica Sweet on Mazey Day had a wonderful day as she won the individual trophy in a time of 20.64 for Penrice College in the first class at 2ft 6in and then went on to win the next individual championship at 3ft 3in. Paige Trethewey on Western Talisman came second in the 2ft 6in and Charlotte Keilbart on Cally Coo came fourth.
However, it was the Brannel (Diamonds) school team who triumphed in the higher 3ft 3in. class in the afternoon. Jade Couch on Glentimon, Donna Sturdy on Roceros Zebinka, Amy Parkin on Silver Shrew, and Jade Couch on SOS. Donna Sturdy claimed second individually and Jade Couch took third. Penrice team were thrilled at their third place at this height which gave all the riders the extra experience in jumping higher fences.

All the girls would like to thank Carol Sturdy and her team or organisers for staging such an enjoyable event and Clive Phillips for building such a testing course.
