30 Teams Support Team Showjumping

The rescheduled Team Showjumping organised by North Cornwall Pony Club was well supported with 30 teams from across Cornwall and Devon travelling to Tall Trees Arena Having had to cancel the event previously due to the heavy snowfall at the end of November, North Cornwall Pony Club was delighted that with the co-operation of the Deithrick family that this popular competition could be rearranged.

North Cornwall Pony Club was well represented with 3 teams contesting the Mini (12 years and under) Section of the event and 8 teams entered in the Maxi Section.

Course builder Clive Phillips built a course that made all riders think and encouraged them to use the arena fully and ride good lines to their fences. A plank fence constructed at the spectator end of the arena proved one of the most influential fences in the course.

Competitors jumped two rounds of 1ft 6 or 2ft fences in the Mini Section. This was won by the Western Team, 'Western Wonders' In second was the Spooners 'Pocket Rockets' from Spooners and West Dartmoor Pony Club. The highest placed North Cornwall team was the North Cornwall Whippets-Eva Walton (Twilight), Alexandra Keilbart (Charmaine), Tobias Dance (Sherry) and Chloe Brown (Daisy) who finished in third place. Also well placed were the North Cornwall 'Jack Russells' who finished sixth and North Cornwall 'Dachsunds' who finished eigth.

The competitors in the Maxi Section jumped a range of heights from 2ft 3 to 3ft 3. Twenty two teams from nine different Pony Clubs contested this section with the winning team being the 'Spooners Stars' representing Spooners and West Dartmoor Pony Club who finished on a total of zero faults along with second placed Mid Devon Hunt Pony Club and third placed 'Marching Maroons' from the Four Burrow Pony Club, Sophie Butcher (Pablo), Jamie Woods (Rolo Polo), Kim Matthews (Kirby Irish Dream) and Sarah Pyne (The Full Monty).

The highest placed North Cornwall team was the North Cornwall Bassetts who finished fourth; Issy Muir (Humbug), Becky Allen (Oscar) Anna Robinson (Right Said Fred) and Lorna Russell (Play Fair). There were also placings for other North Cornwall teams with the North Cornwall Dobermanns finishing fifth and North Cornwall Labradors sixth.

A mounted presentation ceremony at the end of each section was well received with the arena packed with happy children and their ponies/horses as they collected their rosettes from Anita Foulsham the new District Commissioner for North Cornwall Pony Club.
