Audrey & Allen Tie the Knot
On Saturday 21st July 2007 Audrey Walker & her partner of 17 years Alan Cole were married @ Menheniot Parish Church. The service, conducted by Father Philip Conway, was attended by over 120 relatives, friends and ex-police colleagues of the couple. They emerged from church to the sound of bells and guard of honour by East Cornwall Hunt staff Graham Higgins, Tony Sleep & Harold Semmens. There then followed a great spectacle as The Master blew the horn & escorted the newly weds back home in fine style as they rode on a tractor and trailor festooned with flowers & balloons, driven by Alan's oldest schoolfriend & neighbouring farmer Steven Pearce from Trenodden Farm Doddycross.
Best man was Nigel Edmonds and bridesmaids were the couple's niece Lucy Roberts and equestrian friends Kirstin McLean and Charlotte and Georgia Brewer. Transport for the bridesmaids was kindly sponsored by Charlotte and Georgia's grandfather Rodney Trudgeon, of Nanpean driving his '1935 Hudson'.
Audrey and her bridesmaids were dressed in ivory and gold by Bee Bee Gowns.
Audrey & Alan decided to treat the occasion as an excuse for yet another fund raising event in aid of Parkinsons Disease Research, which Alan has suffered with for the past 8 years so instead of the usual reception afterwards they organised an evening of entertainment in their neighbour's cowshed, by kind permission of Colin Maddever. The order of the day was 'no presents or cards' just a £12.50 charge for entry to a 'Hog roast' generously donated by Terry Penhorwood & Vernon Lobb & BBQ'.
Sheila's School of Dance from Looe delighted the guests with a stunning dance routine and revellers danced into the early hours to music by Electric Two. Kevin Horsham captivated everyone with his Compere and singing skills and between the auction, raffle, donations and profits from the bar takings, £2300 was raised for the cause bringing the grand total raised so far to an amazing £26,400.
24 hours later the couple set off on their second ever holiday together! for a 12 night Mediterranean honeymoon cruise, on board Celebrity Cruises 91,000 ton cruiseship 'Millenium', arranged by Ian Calvert's 'Have a Nice Stay Travel'.
Audrey & Alan wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all their friends who helped in so many ways to bring this truly magical, fun day together for them. It was certainly a Wedding with a difference and one which they hope will make a contribution to the quality of life for all Parkinsons sufferers in the future.
