Cornwall Trec Showjumping Derby
Cornwall Trek Group held the first event of its kind on Sunday 15th October in Cornwall " Showjumping Derby". Competitors had to complete the first stage of showjumping over 5 obstacles leaving the arena to tackle 10 cross country fences returning to the arena to complete another 5 show jumps. Chirldrens Day at Royal Cornwall
Emma Stokes from Foxhole had a great surprise when she came home from Poltair school on the first day of the Royal Cornwall Show. Her grandfather had been to the show and bought a catalogue, and to his amazement there was a picture of Emma at the 2005 show on the front cover.
Emma won the best child rider championship at the 2005 show riding her 138cms show pony Overdale Vanity Fair. This year she moved up a height section and was delighted to win the 148cms childs riding pony class and take the show pony championship with Jackets Vaudeville, a five year old chestnut gelding bought for Emma on Christmas Day last year. Pendavey Competition Days
Pendavey Equestrian Centre held two consecutive days of competition over the May bank holiday week end. Large entries on the Sunday for the David Broome Championship of Great Britain Showjumping qualifiers confirmed the strong support in the area for this event.
North Cornwall Pony Club members did well gaining qualifications. Young Alex Keilbart on Nina Ball’s dependable pony Charmaine was particularly delighted to achieve her qualification in the ten years and under. Click to read more.
Lanhydrock Horse Trials
Anita Knight from Polgooth enjoyed success at the Lanhydrock Horse Trials riding her coloured 10 year-old gelding Valentines Speed Limit. Anita has owned Speed Limit who’s stable name is ‘Fat Gus’ for three years and has brought him on slowly from showing and dressge last year to trying out the horse trials at Laddock.Click to read more.

Local Success at Devon County
Elizabeth Webber from Stockwell Farm near Silverton in Devon had a great Devon County Show this year.
Elizabeth has owned her Welsh Section B grey gelding Thornbury Court Jester, by Rotherwood State Occasion since he was a three year-old and broke him in herself with the help of her twin sons Robert and Richard when he was seven years old.
Elizabeth entered him in the Ridden section B class at Devon County Show on Friday and was delighted to collect fourth place under judge Mr B Monaghan from Gwent. Elizabeth told Horseclub that he was called in third originally and just struck off on the wrong leg in canter, quickly corrected by his rider Kelly West so was dropped to fourth place. Jodie & Teoak Part Comapny
Young Jodie Gwinnett aged 7 of Stockport, Cheshire said goodbye to her lovely lead rein pony Rosemellyn Bubbling Burn earlier this month.
Teoak as he is known in the stable has given Jodie the ride of her life. They have been down the centre line to ‘Simply the Best’ more times than any little girl could ever wish for. Teoak is rising seven and was on loan to Jodie and her family by his breeder Amanda Oakley who lives in Cornwall.. Click to read more.
Spurs Present Cheque
Carol Dunster from Bugle on ILPH Boxer was the overall points winner of this seasons Spurs show jumping series. Carol was presented with the trophy by Graham Brokenshire of Penwyn Motor Centre of St. Dennis who had kindly donated the trophy. Around 140 people attended the presentation evening where Spurs also presented a cheque for £1,250 to Pam Arnold and Carol Berry from the Tanya`s Courage Trust, who commented that the money was enough to help six children. Jigsaw Puzzle
Camel Valley Riding Club hosted a successful Jigsaw Puzzle Endurance Ride that commenced from the Royal Cornwall Showground and took riders around some magnificent routes. With strong winds and torrential rain it was a true endurance ride. Click to read more.
Endurance GB Training Rides
Endurance GB South West have been busy recently with their training rides. The Caerhays Castle ride was buzzing with the enthusiasm of over 70 riders from across the Southwest. Good weather blessed the ride, giving fantastic views of the coast. Winter sunshine enabled competitors to make the most of the coastal paths, tracks and farmland to test their horses fitness on the Cornish slopes. Click to read more.
Indoor Cross Country
The Indoor Cross Country Accumulator Series reached an exciting climax on 2 April at Pendavey Equestrian Centre. Many members of North Cornwall Pony Club took home a clutch of trophies as the final placings were decided with some exciting jump offs and close finishes. Well supported classes particularly over the lower height ranges demonstrated the strong support for this type of event. British Open 2006 Day 1
The opening day of the British Open Show Jumping Championships in Sheffield’s Hallam FM arena took standing ovations today, with three out of four Whitaker’s successful in all of today’s classes and the UK Indoor Cross Country debut proclaimed a roaring success, with Mark Kyle (IRE) taking the top prize.Click to read more.
British Open 2006 Day 2
Whilst the Brit’s flew the flag in last night’s first British Open Championship class with Michael Whitaker’s win and David McPherson as runner-up, tonight second round proved a truly international affair. With the riders knowing that the points accrued would play an important role in determining if they would go through to contest the Final on Sunday, there was everything to ride for. Just Kristof Cleeren from Belgium on Andiamo Z and Florian Angot from France on First De Launay HN mastered Bob Ellis’ technical and demanding course with the only double clears in 44.97 and 44.54 seconds respectively. Spectacular Night at the Grange
More than a thousand spectators poured into Dave and Judy Reddan’s Grange Equestrian Centre near Okehampton to enjoy the excitement of showjumpers taking on the challenge of the big red Puissance wall.
In an atmosphere as red hot as the new paint on this awesome wall the packed crowd were kept at the edge of their seats as horses faced the prospect of jumping nearly two metres, the equivalent of a normal size door.
Eight riders reached the penultimate round at a height of 1.80m when European young rider gold medallist Matthew Broome and Cornish farrier Andrew James pushed a brick out of the wall leaving six horses and riders to face the ultimate test of 1.95 metres. Click to read more.
Tall Trees Spring Show

The sun shone for the Tall Trees Annual Spring Showing Show which attracted competitors from both Devon and Cornwall. The best combination class judged by Jane Hoskin from Bodmin was so popular that the class had to be split in two for the canter round together. To save the children getting bored waiting for their turn Mrs Hoskin operated a good system when sheasked for their individual shows. MORE
Indoor Cross Country
The penultimate leg in the Indoor Cross Country Accumulator Series was held at Pendavey Equestrian Centre on 5 March. Most of the regular combinations were present as they aimed to consolidate or increase their standings in this popular series. In some of the classes the final placings will not be decided until the last round in April and competition for the trophies awarded to the top six combinations is still intense. MORE
Spurs Show Jumping
#Despite the bad weather and the high winds at last weeks Spurs show jumping event they had a very good turnout, and all classes were well attended. The sponsor for the evening was Ursula Hambley and Reg Hambley of West Insure who provided the stunning horse heads for the first place winners and plaques for the second to fourth placings. MORE

Spurs Jumping
 Spurs show jumping once again held a successful jumping event last Thursday. Organisers wish to thank the sponsors for the evening Crosswinds Equestrian and Stacey Johns who presented the awards on their behalf. Thanks also go to Andrew James who yet again very kindly donated his services as course builder. Andrew built a very challenging final class with jumps being up to height and first place being very keenly contested eventually won by local Bugle rider Carol Dunster on ILPH Boxer.MORE
NPA Points
Each year the Native Pony Association of Cornwall holds a competition for the highest number of points won by its members over the year. These points are awarded for taking part in, or winning a wide selection of disciplines from Gymkhana to Showing to Cross-Country, individual prizes as well as overall placings are offered.MORE
Team Showjumping Well Supported
The rescheduled Team Showjumping organised by North Cornwall Pony Club was well supported with 30 teams from across Cornwall and Devon travelling to Tall Trees Arena Having had to cancel the event previously due to the heavy snowfall at the end of November, North Cornwall Pony Club was delighted that with the co-operation of the Deithrick family that this popular competition could be rearranged. The Cornwall Dressage Group held a highly successful Christmas Dressage to Music Party. Overheard by one of the spectators; "This was the best ever performance put on by the group, Cornwall 's answer to Olympia ". MORE
Twinkle is a Little Star
The first South West Shetland Pony Group held its very first ever Foal and Youngstock show at Cholwell Equestrian Centre, however it unfortunately clashed with the Cornish Native Pony Association foal and young stock show, which was a shame as the Tawna Stud from Bodmin had to choose between the two venues. The stud have been breeding Shetlands for over 40 years on Bodmin Moor and their choice was simple they opted for their own society's show. MORE
Pendavey Christmas Dressage
Pendavey Equestrian Centre held their Christmas Dressage event with success. The event was organised with the aim to encourage those new to dressage to 'have a go' in a low key, relaxed atmosphere and was judged by Linden Mair, chairman of the Cornwall Dressage Group who offered the riders good advice and encouragement. Young Rider National Championship
Rachel Bishop from Polgooth near St Austell was delighted to discover she and her 14hh Arab cross Exmoor pony Scarlet had won the Young Rider National Championship at the Endurance GB awards ceremony held recently. MORE
Spurs Festive Jumping
S purs show jumping held their first show during the daytime with success between Christmas and New Year. Although not forecast in our area, snow fell in the region but it didn't put off any competitors. All classes were full with plenty of entries. The committee received lots of praise from the riders about the fantastic course which was built once again by Andrew James.MORE
Tall Trees Fun
Tall Trees arena had great fun over the Christmas holidays. Their Christmas jumping show was a huge success with nearly all the riders turning out in fancy dress. Father Christmas, Little Elves, Pixies and Angels all entered. Jumps in the 10 years and under class were at 1ft 3inches and lots of Santa's little helpers were allowed in the ring to offer encouragement to the youngsters, many competing for the first time. MORE
Fraddon Christmas Show
Fraddon and District Horse show held there Christmas fun show at Barguse riding centre on just before Christmas. They received excellent entries in all classes with over 30 entries in the 2ft 3in. Jinglebell Jaunt which was won by Roxy Croft on Ladies Revenge with Tracy Venner on Dark Secret a close second. A free fancy dress class saw 14 entries come forward which was won by the Sym girls Kim, Kirsty and Louise from St Stephens. Kirsty was also second in the lead rein jumping finishing less than a second behind Sadie Hallet on Goldie. MORE
Endurance South West
Frances and Peter Webster hosted the incredibly popular Lanhydrock Christmas pleasure ride for Endurance GB South West. Following the success of the past two years the National Trust permitted forty horses to ride the 15km route, which consisted of forestry tracks and estate land around the Cross Country Course. The event was blessed with dry conditions which allowed good going and showed off the full historic beauty of the National Trust Estate with its rhododendron gardens. MORE
East Cornwall Dinner & Dance
East Cornwall Riding Club had a wonderful dinner and dance at Trelaske Country Hotel, Polperro where they gave out their annual awards. The most improved rider trophy went to Michael Brooks, the best Novice Horse went to Fizz ridden by Fiona Renfree and the points trophy which is the accumulation of points collected at members only shows based on placings and attendance was won by Lousie Garland on Red River . Other winners were second; Fiona Renfree on Fizz, third; Audrey Walker on Ancre Valley, Fourth; Wendy Roberts on Cracker, fifth; Sue Minchinton on Sparky and sixth Nicky Du Plessis on West of the Tamar. A charity raffle and envelope is also now an event at the dinner dance which raised £300 for the Riding for the Disabled Association group at Duchy College . MORE December 2005
South West Branch of Endurance GB AGM
The South West Branch of Endurance GB celebrated the end of a very successful season with their fourth AGM and Award Ceremony at Trethorne Leisure Farm, which was attended by over one hundred members. The raffle organised by Val and Tony Crocker raised over £100 for the group. Contributions included items from the members and region's sponsors Woof Wear, Blue Chip Feed Balancer and Ariat. MORE
Third event of season for SPURS
Spurs show jumping enjoyed their third event in the series with a great turnout despite terrible weather conditions. Mike Johns made his debut in course building for the evening and said he wanted to build a technical and demanding course, which is what it proved to be. The Novice class, which is always superbly represented was won by Ann-Marie Ryder on Tyler who just pipped young Amy Parkin on Black Knight to the post. MORE
NPA Winter Show
Once again the Native Pony Association of Cornwall's early winter show at Barguse was a great success, run efficiently by the club's Junior Committee. Several ponies and riders were making their ridden debut at the show, and it was good to see some exemplary behaviour from them despite their lack of experience.MORE

Good Turnout for last SWPA Show of season
Following a horrendous weather report members turned out in good numbers for the last South West Pony Association show of the season. Having moved from its normal venue, due to imposed limitations, to the outdoor site of David Broome’s pre-entries were good and only a small number failed to turn up. MORE
Spurs Show Jumping Club
A great evening was had by all at Spurs Show Jumping Club’s first show of the 2005/6 season. With a bumper turnout, many of the regular competitors from last season followed the club to its new venue of Pendavey Equestrian Centre, near Wadebridge as well as many new faces from afar a field as Falmouth to Okehampton. . Great Win for Nicola Russell
Nicola Russell (21) who lives near Launceston on the edge of the Cornish/Devon border was absolutely delighted to win the finals of the British Dressage Talent Spotting Young Rider Championships. The competitions aim is to find pure talent within the sport and give as much help and assistance to our up and coming young riders as possible. Which could not be done without the generous sponsorship from the British Dressage Supporters Club, Mr and Mrs Pidgley of the Berkley Group, The Worshipful Company of Saddlers, Diane Breeze and of course British Dressage itself. . Mammouth Carrot Crunch
The annual 'Mammoth Carrot Crunch' which has turned more than a hundred tonnes of carrots into thousands of pounds used to stop cruelty to horses will take place again at the Equine Fair Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December. At last years event 22 tonnes of carrots were sold raising £4400 for the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).. MORE

Twelve year-old Yasmin Burrows from Drakelands, Near Plympton enjoyed her Birthday cake at this years Horse of the Year Show and managed to celebrate whilst eating it in style watching the show jumping in the International Arena during the Friday nights performance. Yasmin was celebrating not only her twelfth birthday but her success in receiving the Best Turned Out award riding her lovely grey pony Devon Aratzi whom she rode in the 128cms Charlotte Morgan Childrens Riding Pony of the Year. HOYS Round Up of Cornish Riders Cornwall enjoyed a great Horse of the Year Show, with more competitors qualifying for the prestigious event than ever before and receiving their fair share of top prizes. Fifteen year-old Grace Warmington made her debut appearance riding her Grey Connemara Rinsey Drumlin in the Simpson Refactories Mountain and Moorland, New Forest and Connemara section. Grace who is trained by Bridget Millington on a weekly basis, but increased her lessons to a daily lessons the week before, in preparation for the big event. Grace said;'I was really pleased with the way my pony behaved in the ring I could not have a sked any more of him'. Sadly Grace didn't make into the top eleven. MORE

North Cornwall Hunt in the Money
North Cornwall Hunt bring home £1,500 in prize money for taking second place in The Silver Fox Trophy at the Hambleden Estate near Henley on Thames. Team members were Adam Ellery joint Master, Brian Facey, Sammy-Jo Coffin and Tom Walters. MORE
NPA AUTUMN SHOW
The Native Pony Association Autumn fun show saw two youngsters take champion and reserve champion. Amy Gregory rode four year-old Trevarth Galahad, who is by Trevarth Tamarino out of Trevarth Gemma and owned by Jean McNaughton to the champion spot after winning his class. MORE
Locals ot HOYS
Local riders will be competing in less than a week at the biggest ever Horse of the Year Show, held at the Birmingham's NEC Wednesday 12- Sunday 16 October. Over 150,000 competitors set out each year to try and earn one of the converted 1,500 places at HOYS and less than one percent actually make it, proving that Cornwall has some of the best horses and riders in the country. Veteran Horse Society Regional Finals
The Charity Fun Ride held on Sunday 18th September at Pendavey E.C, Wadebridge, saw ninety eight riders enjoying the sunny weather .MORE
Veteran Horse Society Regional Finals Sue Ellis was over the moon when she collected first prize at the Veteran Horse Society Championships in the in-hand class for equines over 25 years old with her 33 year old chestnut horse Calypso held at Bicton Arena, Devon .MORE
NPA Champions of Champions Barguse Riding Centre was the venue for the Native Pony Association's 30th Anniversary Champion of Champions Finale, and there was a super turnout of ponies, all of which had qualified by winning Mountain and Moorland Championships at more than a dozen shows around the County during the season. Dream Comes Ture
Fourteen year-old Louis Moore from Camborne had his dream come true when he qualified to compete at this year's biggest ever Horse of The Year Show (HOYS) at the Birmingham's NEC Arena being held from Wednesday 12th October to Sunday 16th October. MORE

Newquay Riding Club qualified their junior jumping team for the British National Championships held at Lincolnshire showground. MORE
Cups Galore
The Howard sisters had an exceptional day at the St Stephen in Brannel annual show going home laden with silver cups and trophies. Katie and Emma collected five first places between them in the showing ring judged by Gemma Jones (nee Semmens) and three first places in the jumping ring. MORE
Polgoda Has Good Turnout Polgoda Riding Club show had an excellent turnout for their annual show. Many competitors commenting on the friendly atmosphere of the show. Polgoda Riding Club members had a good day with many of them gaining first placed rosettes. MORE

13th August - Abigail wins place at Horse of the Year Show
There were brilliant results for two local competitors at the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead. The smallest and youngest Cornish representative, four year old Abigail Dimond, rode in the main ring at Hickstead after winning the British Show Pony Society Pretty Polly (home Produced) Leading Rein class, riding her bay pony Cosford Charmaine.
From Hickstead, Abigail travelled to Bakewell in Derbyshire and completed the ultimate dream of any child by qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show in the leading rein class with Cosford Charmaine. Abigail will be one of the youngest riders at the event to be held at the NEC in Birmingham in October. MORE

22nd April - Tasha Arrives At Springfields
One of the busiest work horses on the Cornish tourism scene received a special birthday present recently with the arrival of a new pony to share the workload.
Thousands of people have enjoyed rides on a carriage pulled by Maestro, an Austrian Hafflinger pony who has worked at the Springfields Fun Park and Pony Centre at St Columb Major near Newquay, since it opened 14years ago.
Now the 18 year old has been joined by Tasha, a six year old gypsy pony, who will gradually take on more and more of the carriage pulling duties as Maestro gets older. For the Full story Click Here
21st April - Spring Show The British Show Pony Society held one of their best Spring Shows at Tall Trees Arena, Davidstow, Camelford. With Royal International qualifiers on offer, competitors arrived from all over the UK including Devon, Somerset , Hampshire, Wales and Kent .

15th April - Brilliant Fire Crew Save Jazz
FIREFIGHTERS worked for more than three hours to rescue a horse stuck in a slurry lagoon. Cornwall County Fire Brigade crews from Saltash and Bodmin, the latter bringing specialist lifting gear responded to the emergency call from dairy farmers Chris & Christine Ranson of Smeaton Farm, at Pillaton in South East Cornwall after they discovered their eleven year old showjumper, a dark bay mare called Phantoms Jazz, submerged in the pool with just her head visible
